Various settings in the browsers like bookmarks, your plugin/extensions can be sync across your  office  and home computers/browsers.  It was really a nightmare to manage all the bookmarks and extensions differently in Firefox. I used to backup all the firefox extension using FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) then copy the back up to thumb drive or iPhone, then synchronize  office and home browsers, and for Bookmarks using the plugin like gmarks (it acutally uses google bookmarks) or xmarks(which is closed now).
This was history, now talk  about Google Chrome browser which has now built-in provision for it called “Sync”. With it you can seamlessly  synchronize  all of your following browser settings.

  • Themes
  • AutoFill data
  • Bookmarks
  • Extensions
  • Preferences
  • Apps (coming soon)

How to enable.

Just follow these steps on each computer that should share the same Google Chrome settings:

  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Click the wrench icon  on the browser toolbar which is just below the [X] button. Mac users: If you don’t see the wrench icon, go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and click Chrome.
  • Select Settings.
  • Click the Personal Stuff tab.
  • In the “Sync” section, click Set up sync.
  • Sign in to your Google Account/gmail account
  • In the “Set up sync” dialog that appears, choose what you want to sync.
    • Sync everything:  Select the “Keep everything in sync” option.
  • OK.
  • You’ll see a confirmation message once Google Chrome has finished copying your browser data to your Google Account. OK

How to disable sync:

do 1-4 steps described above.
5. Click on stop syncing this account.

Warning: if anybody enters his own Google account in sync. your browser setting will be copied to that person’s account.

all these setting are stored in google Docs in a special folder “Google chrome”, but can not change anything in that folder in docs.
